Order Form

Young children are just beginning to understand what it means to be active and healthy. In order to increase the chances that they will enjoy a lifetime of good health, the skills, knowledge, and attitudes that lead to a healthy, active lifestyle must be taught, and teaching should begin at an early age.

The five foundations of Physical Education/Health are listed below:

(To view a short clip from the video, click on the appropriate graphic):

Gross/Fine Motor and Sensory Development

As young children learn basic body management and movements, they observe, practice, and demonstrate, and eventually learn to control their bodies in relation to objects and other people.

Application of Movement Concepts and Principles to the Learning and Development of Motor Skills
As young children's vocabulary increases, they begin to correctly use the words that describe movement. They will also correctly apply movement concepts to motor skills by responding appropriately to instructions to move front to back, side to side, or left to right.

Enjoyment of Motor and Sensory Experiences
Young children enjoy challenging physical activities. These activities can support their attempts at self-expression while encouraging positive interactions with others.

Responsible Personal Health and Safety Practices

Young children are beginning to understand the definition of a healthy lifestyle. Adults can guide and encourage them to develop greater independence for their personal care and safety.

Respect for Differences
Physical activities are a good place for young children to begin to demonstrate an understanding and respect for differences among people.
